This is a rare Rock song with the Xylophone (heavily damped) as the lead instrument.
This was based on the jingle in the Maxwell House coffee TV commercials. That's where the "percolator" comes from.
Billy Joe (born Louis Bideu) (a.k.a. "Billy joe Hunter") had a local TV show in New York in the 1950s: The Lew Bidell Show.
This was the only Top 40 hit for the group.
Originally called "Percolator," the title was slightly modified by the producer to indicate that is was a record for dancing the twist. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL, for all above)
