A studio instrumental group of Liberty Records based in Los Angeles, California, USA, the T-Bones represent an era when many instrumentals were recorded by house-band session members and released on the unsuspecting public as being recordings by a real rock 'n' roll live ensemble. The T-Bones represented a variety of studio sessionmen under the production aegis of Joe Saraceno (b. 16 May 1937, Utica, New York, USA), who had previous experience with another studio instrumental hitmaker, the Routers (of "Let's Go' fame).

The mainstays of the band were guitarist Don Hamilton (originally from Wetnatchee, Washington), bassist Joe Frank Carollo (from Leland, Mississippi), and drummer/steel drummer Tommy Reynolds (from New York City). The first LPs by the T-Bones, Boss Drag and Boss Drag At The Beach, were released in 1964 to exploit the craze for instrumentals evoking surf and hot-rod themes. Doin" The Jerk followed in 1965 to exploit a huge west coast dance craze, The Jerk.

The T-Bones became a notable one-hit-wonder act in late 1965 with a huge hit, "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In)" (number 3 pop), a composition by Sascha Burland based on an Alka-Seltzer commercial. An album of the same name became the group's only chart entry, at number 75 in the pop chart. A follow-up, "Sippin' And Chippin'", which was based on a Nabisco jingle, only reached number 62, and the album of the same name did not chart at all. The last T-Bones album was Everyone's Gone To The Moon, late in 1966. Hamilton, Frank and Reynolds went on to become a notable rock act in the 70s as Hamilton, Joe Frank And Reynolds.
